Banjo pictureBluegrass is "white" and blues is "black" music. That's an old, well-established truth.

But despite common belief, black and white American music have always been closely interconnected. Long before they could play together - before they could even talk to each other - white and black musicians still listened to each other and learned.

Bill Monore is often credited as the originator of bluegrass, and his first "Bluegrass boys" (featuring banjoist Earl Scruggs) played lots and lots of blues!

Some of the masters of that style:

Scruggs, Earl
Sokolow, Fred
