I wrote this riff around the D7 chord for bottleneck playing on a mandolin-banjo(!) It works just as well on other GDAE-tuned instruments though (and in CGDA-tuning too although then it'll be in G rather than D) and can also be played without a slide - giving it a "trumpet fanfare" like sound.
