The bass banjo (or banjobass) is a big four-stringed banjo, simlar in size and tuning to a double bass or a bass guitar.

There has been many different approaches to making a bass variant of the banjo over the years. The early bass banjos tended to be "double bass style" instruments, upright basses with a huge body. Today's bass banjos are usually more like a bass guitar.
