The banjolele - or banjo-ukulele as it's also called - is a small soft-voiced banjo tuned like an ukulele.

Sometimes you can see older banjoleles with a fifth string added and converted into piccolo banjos.

The only one I've heard of who used it for the blues is Lemon "Banjo Boy" Nash, but it should work very well, perhaps especially for "good-time" acoustic or good old-fashioned jug band music.
